A Location Manager Module for configuring QuickTime's Connection Speed preference.
This package includes this ReadMe file and the QTSpeed Location Manager Module. This package can be used or redistributed free of charge as long as it remains unmodified and this ReadMe is included.
Installation:
After unstuffing, drag the module to your closed System Folder and the Finder will make sure it goes to the right place, then restart.
Use:
Once you have restarted you will be able to use the Location Manager to automatically set QuickTime's Connection Speed preference along with other location-specific settings. This comes in handy for PowerBook users, who may have different amounts of bandwidth at different locations and want to see appropriately optimized QuickTime content for that bandwidth.
If you already have a location set up you can edit that location to include your QT Speed preferences. Open the Location Manager Control Panel. Make sure the disclosure triangle at the left of the window is turned down. Choose the location you want to edit in the "Edit Location:" popup. Click on the "QT Speed" item in the list at the lower left. Click the "Edit" button. Choose your connection speed in the dialog that appears. Select "Save" from the file menu. Now whenever you switch to that location in the Location Manager control panel, or via the Location Manager Control Strip popup, the QuickTime Connection Speed preference will be set to whatever you selected in the speed dialog.
If you don't have an existing location set up, first create one and then add the QT Speed setting to it.
Notes:
When changing to a location that has a connection speed setting, you will need to close and reload any movies that you may have open in MoviePlayer, your web browser, or any other applications for the change to take effect.
